IL PROGETTO DIEM FINANZIATO DAL PROGRAMMA INTERREG NEXT MED

È stato pubblicato l’elenco dei 60 progetti che beneficeranno dei 134 milioni di euro disponibili nel quadro della prima call del Programma Interreg NEXT MED. Tra questi, il progetto Developing Inclusive Education in the Mediterranean - DIEM, coordinato dal Dipartimento di Storia, Disegno e Restauro dell’Architettura - Sapienza Università di Roma, è stato selezionato e finanziato con circa 2,7 milioni di euro.

Si tratta di un risultato di particolare rilevanza, considerando le 630 proposte inizialmente presentate e la natura stessa del Programma Interreg NEXT MED, attualmente la misura più significativa dell'Unione Europea a sostegno della cooperazione in ambito euro-mediterraneo. Questa prima call ha visto i progetti candidati impegnarsi in quattro ambiti strategici prioritari, proponendo soluzioni innovative e autenticamente transnazionali:

1. A more competitive and smarter Mediterranean
2. A greener, low-carbon and resilient Mediterranean
3. A more social and inclusive Mediterranean
4. A better cooperation governance for the Mediterranean

In questo contesto, il progetto DIEM si inserisce nell'ambito A more social and inclusive Mediterranean, affrontando nel triennio di attuazione la cruciale sfida dell'accesso inclusivo a opportunità di istruzione, formazione continua e miglioramento delle competenze, temi questi che accomunano, seppur con differenze locali, molte regioni e comunità su entrambe le sponde del Mediterraneo.

Partendo da questa consapevolezza, DIEM concentrerà le proprie attività sul Patrimonio Culturale, considerato non solo un settore chiave per il Mediterraneo, ma anche un ambito in grado di attivare processi di sviluppo sostenibili e duraturi.

L'obiettivo principale di DIEM sarà rafforzare e innovare i sistemi di apprendimento e insegnamento nei Paesi partner (Italia, Spagna, Tunisia, Egitto, Giordania e Palestina), favorendone l'integrazione e la compatibilità reciproca. Inoltre, il focus sul Patrimonio Culturale consentirà di sfruttare il suo effetto moltiplicatore, favorendo lo scambio di know-how, la valorizzazione delle persone e, infine, la crescita culturale.

In questo quadro, DIEM punterà a promuovere l'inclusione sociale e l'accesso al mondo del lavoro, con particolare attenzione ai giovani e alle categorie svantaggiate.

Il progetto prevede un approccio integrato, sviluppando attività multidisciplinari che traggono vantaggio dall'esperienza consolidata dei suoi partner. La partnership comprende istituzioni accademiche di rilievo e organizzazioni con una forte radicazione territoriale ed esperienza nella cooperazione:

• Università: Sapienza Università di Roma (Italia, lead partner, P.I. Prof. Carlo Bianchini), Universidad Polytechnica de Valencia (Spagna), Ain Shams University (Egitto), An-Najah National University (Palestina);
• Enti e organizzazioni: Fondazione MeNO ETS (Italia), Tarmeem Center for the Training on the Preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (Giordania), ANIMED (Tunisia).

In sintesi, il progetto DIEM si articolerà lungo tre principali linee di intervento:

1. Erogazione di programmi di insegnamento e formazione per tre gruppi target: 
   • A - Livello universitario
   • B - Livello scuola superiore
   • C - Personale delle amministrazioni
2. Creazione di un toolkit per l'insegnamento/apprendimento, in grado di integrare tradizione, tecnologie emergenti (come l'Intelligenza Artificiale) e le esperienze acquisite durante la pandemia;
3. Coinvolgimento. oltre che dei beneficiari diretti, delle comunitài e territori dei sei Paesi partner.

DIEM PROJECT FUNDED UNDER THE INTERREG NEXT MED PROGRAMME

The list of 60 projects that will benefit from the €134 million available under the first call of the Interreg NEXT MED Programme has been published. Among them, the Developing Inclusive Education in the Mediterranean - DIEM project, coordinated by the Department of History, Representation and Restoration of Architecture - Sapienza University of Rome, has been selected and awarded funding of approximately €2.7 million.

This is a particularly significant achievement, considering the 630 proposals initially submitted and the very nature of the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, which is currently the most important European Union initiative supporting Euro-Mediterranean cooperation. In this first call, candidate projects were required to focus on four strategic priority areas, proposing innovative and genuinely transnational solutions:

1. A more competitive and smarter Mediterranean
2. A greener, low-carbon and resilient Mediterranean
3. A more social and inclusive Mediterranean
4. A better cooperation governance for the Mediterranean

Within this framework, the DIEM project falls under A more social and inclusive Mediterranean, addressing, over its three-year implementation period, the crucial challenge of inclusive access to education, continuous training, and skills development—issues that, despite local differences, affect many regions and communities on both shores of the Mediterranean.

Based on this, DIEM will focus its activities on Cultural Heritage, regarded not only as a key sector for the Mediterranean but also as an area capable of triggering sustainable and lasting development processes.

The primary objective of DIEM is to strengthen and innovate learning and teaching systems in the participating countries (Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine), enhancing their integration and mutual compatibility. Furthermore, the emphasis on Cultural Heritage will enable DIEM to leverage its recognised multiplier effect, fostering know-how exchange, human capital development, and ultimately, cultural growth.

In this context, DIEM aims at promoting social inclusion and access to employment, with a particular focus on young people and disadvantaged groups.

The project adopts an integrated approach, developing multidisciplinary activities that benefit from the solid expertise of its partners that include leading academic institutions and organisations with strong local roots and extensive experience in cooperation projects:

• Universities: Sapienza University of Rome (Italy, lead partner, P.I. Prof. Carlo Bianchini), Universidad Polytechnica de Valencia (Spain), Ain Shams University (Egypt), An-Najah National University (Palestine);
• Institutions and organisations: Fondazione MeNO ETS (Italy), Tarmeem Center for the Training on the Preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (Jordan), ANIMED (Tunisia).

In summary, the DIEM project will be structured around three main areas of intervention:

1. Implementation of teaching and training programmes for three target groups: 
   • A - University level
   • B - Secondary school level
   • C - Public administration staff
2. Development of a teaching/learning toolkit, integrating tradition, emerging technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence), and lessons learned during the pandemic;
3. Engagement of not only direct beneficiaries but also communities and territories across the six partner countries.
